Teachers

Mrs. Kerr:

Hello! I am so excited to be starting my third-year teaching in Benge. I have enjoyed my time here at our little school out in the country. I was born and raised in Southern Idaho, but moved to Washington state 9 years ago. I currently live outside of St. John, Washington with my husband of 8 years, and our daughter Hallie who is 6 years old. We have gathered a small farm of animals where we raise show lambs and meat chickens, along with any other pets that make their way to the barn. I earned my teaching degree from Washington State University (Go Cougs!) and I am currently working on my Master’s degree online. I love teaching because I love to help children learn and grow, and I love to learn right alongside of them.

Mr. Moore:

I love teaching at Benge! It’s a relaxing commute to and from work, and our families and students are terrific. I remember being at Benge as a little boy when my dad hunted here. The post office was still open. You could even buy a snack and soda pop back then. I feel like I’m back at home now, although I’ll admit working at Benge was never on my radar. Also, for anyone who isn’t aware, there is no longer a post office or store. If you want a pop, you need to bring one with you!

I live in Ritzville with my wife and four kids. Ritzville is where I grew up. I raised steers, had a paper route, regularly golfed, played football, and ran track. I graduated from RHS and attended college at the University of Idaho and Brigham Young University. I taught school and farmed in Utah for about 12 years after graduating from college. The town was similar in some ways to Ritzville. I enjoyed my time there. My wife’s family is from there (Mona, UT).

Now that I’m back home, I have a stronger connection to my biological kids because they’re attending the same school I went to. Some of their friends are children of my friends. They play sports as I did. It’s fun to watch them participate and improve. It’s exciting to know they will have many of the same opportunities I had . . . and hopefully some better ones! BTW, my math teacher and football coach, Mr. Lynch, is now my son’s football coach. He’s been doing this awhile.

My wife and I like to go on drives. Day drives are preferable. We always have to head back home to take the dogs for a walk and feed/water them. That’s why we seldom stray too far away. I also like taking my kids hunting, fishing, and golfing. We now raise hogs each year. That’s fun, too!

Overall, life couldn’t be better unless my kids were grown, married, and had good jobs, and my wife and I were debt-free. But, that’s why I still make my daily pilgrimage to Benge to spend time teaching and learning. There are few things I’d rather do than this!
